Malaysia is renowned for its unique coffee varieties, particularly Liberica, which constitutes about 95% of its coffee production. This varietal is prized for its bold, smoky, and woody flavor profile, distinguishing it from the more commonly known Arabica and Robusta beans. The majority of Liberica coffee is grown in the states of Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak .

Traditional Malaysian coffee, known as “kopi,” is prepared using a distinctive roasting method. Beans are roasted with sugar and margarine, resulting in a caramelized flavor. This coffee is often brewed using a cloth filter and served with condensed milk, creating a rich and creamy beverage .
